Tevin Mack is off the board to VCU.

The 6-foot-6 2015 wing out of Columbia (S.C.) Dreher also considered UConn, Georgia, South Carolina and Clemson.

He is ranked the No. 12 small forward in the Class of 2015 by 247Sports composite rankings, and is the No. 2 player in South Carolina behind P.J. Dozier, who committed to South Carolina on Wednesday.

“It was a tough choice. I turned down a lot of great schools,” Mack told John Whittle of 247 Sports. “It was the little stuff that set VCU apart. I felt more comfortable there and it was really about my comfort level. I liked all the schools, all the coaches were real good people, but I just liked VCU better. (Shaka Smart) is a great coach. The system they run fits my game. They get out and run, shoot a lot of shots and get out on defense, too.”

He added: “My mind changed every day, to be honest. I went with my gut feeling. I had a gut feeling a week ago, but I wasn’t 100 percent. Every school had the lead at some point in my mind. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life up to this point. I turned down a lot of good schools, and that was hard.”

Mack is a big-time athlete who can buckle down on defense to stop the opponent’s best offensive player. He can finish above the rim with authority, and he can get to the rim off the bounce. He needs to improve his jumper at this point, but he has the potential to make an impact immediately.

Mack joins Virginia shooting guard Kenny Williams in VCU’s 2015 class.
