Texas head coach Rick Barnes announced Monday that sophomore point guard Isaiah Taylor has a broken left wrist and is out indefinitely. Surgery is not required and Taylor is expected to return this season.
Taylor broke the wrist Thursday night against Iowa in the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden when he crashed hard to the floor after driving to the basket and encountering 6-10 Gabriel Olaseni.
After their stint in the Big Apple, Texas returns home Tuesday to face Saint Francis before turning around to face reigning NCAA champion UConn Nov. 30 in a nationally televised game in Storrs, Conn. Looming ahead is a Dec. 5 date at No. 1 Kentucky.
“We are what we are without [Taylor],” Barnes said Friday after Texas won the 2K Classic by beating Cal. “I would think it will be a while but it is what it is and we’ve got to look at it as an opportunity that we’ve got guys who can take advantage of this and get better.
“I mean, again, Javan [Felix] really ran the team well [Friday], as well as we’ve run it all year.”
