Keeping in mind that most package discussions don’t end up actually happening, Texas players Myles Turner and Emmanuel Mudiay are talking about teaming up.
The 6-foot-5 Mudiay is the No. 3 player in the Rival150 for 2014, and the 6-11 Turner is the No. 6 player. Needless to say, the addition of the talented point guard and the imposing big man would represent quite a recruiting coup.
The news was first reported by Jason Jordan of USA Today, and confirmed to SNY.tv by David Turner, Myles’s father.
“Myles and Emmanuel have talked about it,” David told SNY.tv from Las Vegas where his son will match up against both Jahlil Okafor and Cliff Alexander Wednesday night.
“It’d be nice, those are two great players. It’s been talked about between the two of them. It’s something that they’re looking at it.
“But the bottom line is Myles is going to make the best decision for him academically and as far as his basketball is concerned. If that includes Emmanuel, that’s great. If not, we’ll keep moving on.”
David said that Baylor, Kentucky and SMU were among the schools both players were considering.
“I’m not sure what Emmanuel’s list is,” David said. “I know those three [schools] for sure.”
If Duke ultimately lands the Tyus Jones/Okafor package (possibly with Justise Winslow), Kentucky could potentially answer with a Mudiay/Turner package (plus whoever else they end up getting).
“They both have Kentucky, they both have Baylor,” David said. “They’re both looking at a couple of the same schools.”
Mudiay confirmed to SNY.tv recently in Philadelphia that his only slated official visit as of now is to Kentucky for Big Blue Madness Oct. 18.
“I know for sure I’m going to the Blue Madness thing out there in Kentucky,” Mudiay said.
Both players also visited SMU together recently and both camps have great respect for SMU coach Larry Brown.
“That’s like in the back yard, that’s at home, so I got family and friends over there,” Mudiay said of SMU. “They show me a lot of love and support, that would definitely be great.”
For now, Turner is playing out the July period and will now cut his list after Adidas Nations Aug. 1-5.
Turner recently cut his list to 26, and his father said they would get down to about 12 in the next cut.
“When he comes back we’re try to get it narrowed it down a little bit,” David said. “Probably a dozen.”
