UCLA freshman wing Shabazz Muhammad injured his right (non-shooting) shoulder Wednesday at practice and will get an MRI this evening, UCLA head coach Ben Howland confirmed to SNY.tv
“It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary,” Howland said by phone. “He got hit. He was going up and Jordan Adams whacked the ball coming down and hit his arm.
“Sometimes you could have a shoulder injury and you could have your arm pulled back. It wasn’t anything like that. It’s his right shoulder, not his shooting shoulder.”
Howland said Muhammad was slated to have an MRI at 6:30 PCT Wednesday, and that the results would come back to UCLA Thursday.
“It won’t be officially read until [Thursday],” Howland said. “The person who reads this is our person that I totally have confidence in. He will read this in the morning.”
The 6-foot-6 Muhammad is currently being investigated by the NCAA for allegedly accepting illegal benefits but can practice with the team.
He was part of a heralded recruiting class that also included Adams, Kyle Anderson and Tony Parker.
