Florida big man Amida Brimah has committed to UConn during his weekend visit and is head coach Kevin Ollie’s third pledge for 2013.
Brimah joins Brooklyn South Shore point guard Terrence Samuel and Long Island Lutheran big man Kentan Facey in UConn’s class.
“I will be playing college basketball at University Of Connecticut#Blessed,” he Tweeted.
The 6-foot-11 center from Miami Archbishop Carroll is considered raw but with a big upside. The native of Ghana reportedly has a 7-6 wingspan. He is averaging about 15 points, 12 blocks and 6 blocks per game.
South Carolina, La Salle and FIU had also offered.
“Amida is a high-motor, high-energy guy,” Carroll coach Juan Hernandez told SNY.tv Monday.
“Obviously, he has tremendous length. Defensively, he’s a game-changer. He had four triple-doubles this year. He just alters shots consistently
“Offensively, he runs the floor very, very well. He comes off ball screens well. He’s gotta improve a little bit with his back to the basket. But he’s come a long, long way. He’s only been playing about four, five years. He has a high, high ceiling and a tremendous work ethic.
“He’s going to be really good if he improves on a daily basis.”
Brimah will be in attendance for tonight’s Louisville-UConn game.
