Vetrone Officially Out at FDU (UPDATED)

Greg Vetrone is out as the head coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University, he confirmed Tuesday to SNY.tv.

The news was first reported by Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com on Feb. 27.

Look for Jared Grasso, the associate head coach at Iona and former Fordham head coach, to be in the mix.

Former Nets assistant Tom Barrise, an FDU grad, could be another option. Barrise was a finalist the last time around when Vetrone was hired.

Former Rutgers head coach Freddie Hill and former Seton Hall coach Bobby Gonzalez are also interested, sources told SNY.tv.

Jose Rebimbas, who has led Division 3 William Paterson to two Final Fours, is also in the mix and deserves consideration.

FDU went 7-24 and 2-16 in the NEC this season and failed to make the NEC Conference tournament for the third straight year and fifth time since 2007.

Vetrone, who took over as the interim coach in 2009 , hopes to find a job as an assistant going forward.
