Now that Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim have lead Team USA to a championship in the FIBA World Cup, both are free once again to roam the recruiting trail with their championship rings.
And both coaches are looking to visit 2016 Gill St. Bernard’s guard Tyus Battle next week.
The Duke vist was first reported by Jerry Carino of Gannett New Jersey, and sources told SNY.tv that Syracuse is also looking to pay Battle a visit next week.
Battle has already visited Syracuse unofficially and will take Midnight Madness trips next month to Kentucky and Duke.
Meantime, Kentucky coach John Calipari comes in Thursday — when he will also meet with 2015s Cheick Diallo and Isaiah Briscoe — and Arizona assistant Book Richardson is due Friday.
Virginia coach Tony Bennett was in Wednesday.
“Bennett challenged Tyus to be different and go to a school like Virginia that is rising,” said Gary Battle, Tyus’ father. “He said Tyus is the kind of kid and basketball talent who is difference maker.”
UConn coach Kevin Ollie and Miami coach Jim Larranaga visited Battle Tuesday.
Louisville’s Rick Pitino, Villanova’s Jay Wright, Rutgers’ Eddie Jordan, Michigan’s John Beilein, Ohio State’s Thad Matta and Florida’s Billy Donovan have also made their pitches to Battle.
