  • Williams, Self, Hamilton to Meet With Wiggins (UPDATED)

    Share Zagsblog Share Zagsblog
The Andrew Wiggins Sweepstakes rolls on.

North Carolina coach Roy Williams will meet with Wiggins on Monday (April 22), Kansas coach Bill Self comes in on Tuesday (April 23) and Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton visits Wednesday (April 24), Huntington (W.V.) Prep coach Rob Fulford confirmed to SNY.tv.

“I really don’t think it means anything,” Fulford said. “They get seven visits; I would think it’s probably smart to use them all. While they still have them, I would use them.  If I’m a coach at a collegiate level, I would come as many times as I could within the NCAA guidelines. Those guys get a number of visits to see a recruit, so they want to come and see what Andrew’s thinking.”

Kentucky coach John Calipari is not coming next week because he already visited with Wiggins before he left for the McDonald’s All-American Game.

“Calipari’s already been here,” Fulford said. “He came in here before [Wiggins] left for the McDonalds’ Game. He’s already been here.”

Asked if this next round of visits has any impact on when Wiggins might announce, Fulford told SNY.tv: “It means absolutely nothing on the timetable.”

Nick Wiggins, Andrew’s older brother at Wichita State, recently told SNY.tv he thought their parents would like him to pick FSU.

Wiggins will compete Saturday in the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Ore., on a World team that also includes Kentucky-bound big man Karl Towns Jr. and Kansas pledge Joel Embiid.

Meantime, Julius Randle and his fellow Kentucky commits continued to work on Wiggins at the McDonald’s and Jordan Games.

“I tried my best, but you know it’s on him and I wish nothing but the best for him,” Randle said Saturday night in Brooklyn after he and Wiggins teamed together in the Jordan Classic.

Wiggins likely will keep a low profile when it’s time to make the announcement that the whole basketball world is awaiting.

“I don’t see a press conference,” Fulford told SNY.tv last week at the Jordan Brand Classic. “He doesn’t need the attention….Knowing him he’ll just have somebody else tweet it for him.”

Wherever Wiggins does land, Fulford says that school will be getting a special player and person.

“He’s special on and off the court,” Fulford said. “That’s the biggest compliment you can give Andrew, how humble he his, how personable he is toward everybody.

“He’s a special kid and we’ve been privileged to have him in Huntington and with our Huntington Prep family. He’s going to be a really special player wherever he goes.”
