With IU and MSU Down, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan Up Next for Blackmon (UPDATED)

James Blackmon had a busy and enjoyable weekend taking visits to both Indiana and Michigan State, and will now trip to Kentucky, Louisville and Michigan in the coming days.

The 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Marion (IN) recently decommitted from Indiana but is still considering the Hoosiers.

“I liked it a lot actually,” Blackmon told SNY.tv. “I spent time with the teammates, talking to the coach [Tom Crean] so I liked it a lot.”

Asked if he learned anything new about the program from his visit, Blackmon said: “I didn’t really learn anything new. I knew it was a great place and they got a great coaching staff so just spent a little time with them.”

Blackmon visited Indiana the same weekend that Virginia shooting guard Robert Johnson, Brooklyn combo guard Isaiah Whitehead and 2015 New Jersey wing Malachi Richardson all visited.

On Sunday, Blackmon tripped to Michigan State.

“It was the same [as Indiana],” he said. “I liked it a lot. Got to tour the campus and I liked the coaching staff and the teammates.”

With Gary Harris likely headed to the NBA next year, Blackmon could fill that role.

“[Coach Tom Izzo] just said that Gary Harris probably will be leaving so I’ll have to come in and probably fill that spot right off and I’ll get a chance to showcase my skills,” Blackmon said.

He now heads to Kentucky on Thursday, Louisville on Friday and Michigan on Saturday, he Tweeted.

“Yeah, I’m looking forward to it,” he said of the Kentucky visit. “Just probably see a great campus and talk to the coaches.”

Asked if Kentucky’s record sending one-and-done guys to the NBA was attractive, he said, “Yeah that’s real appealing to me, the one-and-done guys. But I’m just trying to go to a place where I have the best fit.”

Blackmon said he’s still considering “a lot more” schools.

“I really haven’t cut my list at all,” he said. “I’ll set some [other visits] up.”

As for a timeframe on a decision, Blackmon added, “Probably November.”
