HOUSTON — While Kansas and Texas appeared to be competing in a two-horse race for DeAndre Daniels, Duke is now headlong in the mix.
The 6-foot-8 wing from IMG Academy will visit Duke the weekend of April 15 for “Senior Night,” a source with knowledge told SNY.tv.
Daniels is likely to decide “pretty quick” after the Duke visit, a second source close to the situation said. Duke is his last official visit, since he’s already been to Kentucky, Kansas, Texas and Oregon. He could opt to take another unofficial afterward.
“He is an extremely talented young man, but what sets him apart from other talented kids his age is that fact that he is extremely driven and focused on becoming the best player possible,” IMG coach Andy Borman said recently.
“He is an immediate impact player at the next level and is still open in his recruiting process.”
Duke already has a loaded 2011 recruiting class that includes shooting guard Austin Rivers, small forward Michael Gbinije, center Marshall Plumlee, and point guard Quinn Cook, who scored 29 points to lead Oak Hill Academy into the ESPN NHSI final against Montrose Christian with a 76-73 semifinal win Friday over Dwyer (Fla.).
