Chandler Ready for More Touches by Garnett in Game 2

GREENBURGH, N.Y. — With Kevin Garnett expected to get more touches in Game 2 on Tuesday night, Tyson Chandler knows it’s more important than ever that he round back into form from his neck injury.

Chandler was essentially a non-factor in Game 1, going scoreless and block-less with five rebounds in 20 minutes of the Knicks 85-78 victory.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Chandler said Monday at practice. “I expect [Garnett] to get more shots. We just have to do a good job defending him down in the paint as well as making sure he doesn’t get any open jump shots.”

Entering Game 1, Chandler had missed 16 of the previous 20 games with a bulging disk in his neck. He attributed his Game 1 performance to rust and said he’s feeling much better now.

“Obviously, I’m going to be a little stiff, a iittle sore here and there but I feel great honestly,” Chandler said. “It’s just when you’re out for so long you’re not playing against some Park and Rec dudes, you’re playing against the best of the best and I’m trying to condition myself playing against the best of the best…It’s just getting my timing back, getting my legs under me and getting back into the flow of the game.”

For the Knicks’ sake, he needs to be.

The Celtics plan to get Garnett more touches after he went 4-for-12 for eight points in Game 1.

“We’ve got to play through Kevin a lot more,” Paul Pierce told the Boston Herald. “He’s one of our best passers. I mean he’s one of the most unselfish players, so we have to do a better job of getting him the ball, a lot more than he got it yesterday.

“Doc said he wants Kevin to be aggressive, he wants him to take 20 shots, but even when we run plays for Kevin, he’s so responsible that he’s going to find the open man and be responsible with the ball. He usually ends up getting four or five assists. So we have to do a better job of involving him because he’s good at doing a lot of playmaking duties.”

Without Chandler doing much in Game 1, Kenyon Martin stepped up and had 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, including a critical layup with 40 seconds left.

But if the Knicks are to not only win Game 2, but make a deep run in this postseason, they will need more from Chandler going forward.

“Game 2 is just as important as Game 1,” he said. “We have to make sure that we protect our home floor, take the series back to Boston, 2-0, in our favor.”

I'm pretty sure it dawned on a lot of fans a while back that Winston reminds them of Russell.

I Just did a Fan Speak mock with their own rankings.  I don't think it is realistic for this to happen, but it would be beyond awesome in my oppinion.

@Bent @marc55 Too funny for me to even be annoyed with it doing so.

Thanks for posting the BGA today, we needed something to take away from Mehta's and Florio's big day.

It's kind of cool knowing that the Jets are going into this draft with a top 5 defense on paper and a much improved offense....

If Mac is truly a Jedi he'll come out of the draft with a very fast WR, a good RB who can catch passes, a pass rushing LB, another o-lineman and a QB prospect...

Use the force Mac.....

The guy handled free agency perfectly A+

Think you're 100% on-target here, BS.   Macc has nicely positioned himself heading into the draft with what he's done in FAcy.

The Force will indeed be with him...because I think he will come away from this draft with a speed WR, a quality back with great hands, a QB prospect, and edge rusher and future OL.   Anything/everything else is icing on his cake!   Would love that icing to include an ILB, but maybe that's getting greedy.

I'm starting to grow on Mariota, doubt he will be there(hearing that Washington will def take him).

Wouldn't think so usually but taking a high risk flier on a guy this year, doesn't seem like it would breakvus like so many other picks. Team feels like the ship is headed in the right direction.

@Zartan

I'd rather kiss  Belichick''s  rings as per your assessment than "grow" on 22 year olds.

I'm starting to grow on Mariota

Who ... Dom or Vickerson?

Vickerson's like a 10-year veteran.  He's been a 3-4 DE over the course of his career although has bulked up from 305 to 328 over the past few years.  Cimini described he as "an older Kenrick Ellis" but I don't know about that.  While he has the size to play nose, he hardly ever did last year.

Definitely more of a run stopper than pass rusher.

and he plays worse...at least he doesn't come across as a dirtbag.

@eurojet Cutler ran a 4.76 and Petty ran a 4.87 official 40 times ,so that's wrong.

I really like Bryce Petty. Grab him in the 2nd round, and have him "learn" from Fitz.

Nah second is way too high... I would take him in the fourth but unfortunately he wont be there

I like that when Geno plays bad, its bad and when he plays good , it's good. Couldn't stand to be on the brink of a win only to see and int every time.

—How did Bryce Petty's pro day go? One scouting director I spoke to says, "For what it's worth, it was better than (Marcus) Mariota's."

@juunit @a57se eh to me he will be fine. The guy lives and breathes football. especially if he can sit and learn for ayear

I think the NFL should make us give the Pats our 2nd 7th round pick for tampering with Revis and we should get their 1st round pick for them cheating all these years

Otherwise, do nothing as usual.

@johnnyl65 If any of these moves backfires he will do a complete turnaround and bash the move(s).

When it comes to QBs I would probably take Bryce Petty (in the fourth) over everyone not named Jameis Winston. He needs to sit and learn but his pro day was impressive and his arm can be elite...

Missouri HC Gary Pinkel called former Tiger WR Dorial Green-Beckham "a pretty good kid that made a very, very serious mistake."

"I just want to make sure (NFL teams) understand this is a pretty good kid that made a very, very serious mistake," Pinkel said. "He needed some help with some things. ... He's a good kid with a good heart. He made a very, very serious mistake. He'll learn from it and hopefully it's going to help him out." At the school's pro day on Thursday, Pinkel told the media he's been giving NFL personnel executives positive feedback about Green-Beckham. DGB was kicked off the Missouri team after two marijuana-related suspensions and a burglary investigation and pushing a woman down a staircase.

Per Rotoworld

It is a good sign that his former HC is backing him up...

@Brendan @a57se

Pretty sure the AD/school admin made the call on cutting ties with DGB but the coach doesn;t have to say anything about the kid if he doesn;t want to.

Not sure why you would be cynical about this...

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se Because it's nothing, this should not have any impact on his draft stock.

a57se
a57se

@Brendan @a57se

But it does.

The NFL scouting departments wouldn't be asking his Mizzou HC if his input wasn't valued...

Brendan
Brendan

@a57se So an NFL team is going to look at that and go "oh...so he did horrible sht and you guys jettisoned him, but there's no hard feelings? CHECK IN THE PRO COLUMN FOR THIS GUY!"

Try to forget you've been hyping DGB the entire offseason, if this was someone you didn't like you'd be saying the same thing I am.

a57se
a57se

@tsjc68 @a57se @Bytor

I don't know that any particular player is better then DGB at R2 level but positionally, he wouldn't be at he top of my list FOR the Jets.

Bytor
Bytor

@a57se @Bytor I would understand completely if they went RB or ILB in R2 over DGB even though our WR corps would be monstrous and filled long term if we took him.

I'm actually open to almost any scenarios because we filled so many holes in FAcy except these two which would cause me to throw my tv out the window:

MM is there and we pass without trading down.

We draft a safety.

Edit: fixed a typo

a57se
a57se

@Bytor @a57se

Yeah, if we draft Landon Collins, the NFL will be very glad they are in Chicago istead of RCMH....

Hear a lot of highly divergent evaluations of Dawson.   Some rank him very highly, others don't.  Remember seeing a game analysis that I think 57 posted that was so negative re his athleticism and instincts that they concluded he might not even be a quality contributor on ST.    ??

Would love to get Stephone Anthony, but he's going in the 2nd round.

@Bytor @a57se our RB's are still fairly young but our WR's aren't .. think better to go DGB if he's there in 2nd
