Woodson Experimenting With Wallace, Camby Together

NEW YORK — Is Knicks coach Mike Woodson looking to play veteran bigs Rasheed Wallace and Marcus Camby together more often?

Woodson played the two 6-foot-11 men together for a spell in the first half of the Knicks 121-100 win over the Detroit Pistons Sunday at MSG.

“We’ll eventually get to that,” Woodson said after his team moved to 9-3 ahead of Monday’s showdown with the Nets at the Barclays Center. “We can tinker around with different lineups, with different combinations.

“But at the end of the day whatever player is in there playing, he’s gotta make the most of the minutes to help us win.”

Wallace finished with 15 points in almost 22 minutes before fouling out, while Camby had 0 points and three rebounds in five minutes.

“I just decided to go big tonight just to see how it looked,” Woodson said. “And that’s not to say it won’t happen again. I think as the season goes along you’ll see some of that.”

Number just came out, Fords deal is worth 740k. Right around what we all expected

I was under the impression that he was a little more accomplished as a punt returner. Hopefully he can step up and win that job because our PR depth chart is looking pretty lean right now.

Any news on Aaron Berry the CB who got hurt in preseason last year?  Did he sign somewhere?

@j3tsfan29  Not sure how this one is any different/better than all the other ones I've ever done, but okay...

@Joe/Orlando  He did return 49 in college, with a 9.8 yard average and two touchdowns.  Maybe just rusty once he did it for the first time in the NFL in his fourth season.

@Ceifus Hornswoggle  And the wet Blanket award goes to.......Spent.

Seriously though Youve been a real drag lately, a stick in the mud, a Debbie downer, a Negative Nancy, a grumpy Gus, a 57, a malcontent, gloomy, disgruntled and miserable....thats all I got.

@a57se  Snap count too low again, I assume, even though he was 18th in coverage grade per PFF.

@jdb4  Yes, I remember it well - my buddy is a Raiders fan so I invariably get to watch all of their games live on TV.  He was amazing in that game.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan  Serious answer.  Something like this maybe?

Ford - Rookie - Goodson for KR

Rookie - Ford - Wilson for PR (with Decker for emergencies).

I assume guys like Hakim and Gates who would be on the current depth chart will not make the team.

@Disgruntled Jets Fan  Probably a list of names with the top candidates at the top and the lesser candidates lower down.

@dgdg  freakin Idzik is lowballing him probably. I want Berry back!!!

Not sure either, but atleast your work is being noticed on a larger scale. Tjb better lock you up on a contract extension, and guarentee it, no performance based bonus for bent.

@Brendan How you feel bout this signing manee? If healthy I expect him to be surprising offensive contributor for us.

@Bent @Joe/Orlando  It's also encouraging that he seemed to look better (or at least more comfortable) towards the end of the season. Just don't want to have a repeat of last year's PR festivities...

@Bent @a57se

Have you looked at the ranking yet? They have Desmond trufant and tyrann matthieu WAY TOO HIGH for my taste.

@Bent @jdb4

I was surprised when I saw his career production because this game always stood out in my mind.  So I've always thought he was better than he was.

@levi @dgdg  How can you lowball a guy who's been in the league four years and barely played?  Can't see him getting more than the minimum.  And I do think they probably offered him that.

@williamg1 @Bent @j3tsfan29  I actually think my best work is the satirical/comedy stuff I used to do rather than these kinds of analysis pieces.

@gbrownn  I'd need to see the draft to see what Ford's chances on O are, tbh. One thing he certainly has is big play ability and he's the type of guy I think the team would be well served to get some additional non-ST touches. Bubble screens, short reverses, maybe some Wildcat stuff.

If he's used as a #4 WR/specialty guy he could have some big plays, I just don't know if the team is going to rely on him for that.

@Brendan I hear ya, there used be a time when I thought every kickoff we fielded legit had a chance of being returned to the house. That feeling would be nice to have again.

Not expecting much from him on offense though? I guess I'm really not either, but watch out if MM is able to get him to produce, he can be a real gamebreaker for us

Brendan
Brendan

@gbrownn  At the risk of being accused the biggest homer to ever home...it's a good move. Little risk, potentially big benefits on KR. If they draft a guy who can do what he does, they can cut him and keep the rookie for less combined $ than Ford alone costs.

It's not flashy, but KR is in need of a serious shot in the arm.

@WW85 I had to look that one up.

Bent

@Brendan @Bent  Maybe he was so integral to Iowa State's team as a corner that they wouldn't want to risk him getting hurt?

Brendan
Brendan

@Bent I certainly would, but maybe he can't catch or something. I have to imagine coaches have tried him back there in practice before.

Brendan
Brendan

@Simon Gribben He only returned 1 kickoff and 1 punt in his entire college career. Might just be something he's not very good at.

levi
levi

@Bent  Oh ok. I didnt think he was under contract but figured it must be in the works. That clears it up though.

Bent

@levi @Bent @Disgruntled Jets Fan  He didn't.

Kim Martin clarified her tweet.  Ford said he was told he'd be competing for the KR and PR job in response to a question that referenced Cribbs in the context of someone he might have to compete with.  Ford didn't mention Cribbs.

Bent
Bent moderator

@levi @Bent @Disgruntled Jets Fan  He's out of contract.  If they bring him back then yes he would be in the mix.  In fact then it would probably be between him and Ford for one roster spot.

Bent
Bent moderator

@levi @Bent  He did have an offer from the Jets and was permitted to seek a better deal elsewhere.  I don't know if that offer still stands now though.

@Bent  haha I dont know how but Idzik will find a way.

Im a little surprised Pettine didnt pick him up either. Maybe he's looking for more than a back up role?
