Frank Haith Out at Miami?

My colleague Gary Parrish of reports that Miami coach Frank Haith is likely on his way out and could get the Alabama job.

Haith would “absolutely leave Miami if presented with a respectable offer,” Parrish reported an industry source as saying.

If Haith were to leave, it would have an impact on Manhattan Rice High star Durand Scott, who chose Miami earlier this year over Pitt and UConn. Scott made his announcement on

Missouri’s Mike Anderson, who just won the Big 12 conference tournament, could also be a candidate for the Alabama job. assuming he isn’t rewarded with a rich extension at Mizzou.

Meantime, Haith denies Parrish’s story, telling the Palm Beach Post in a text message, “There is no story.”

Haith did not give the paper further comment.

Parrish’s original story, which quotes an industry source, goes on to say that C.M. Newton, a former Alabama coach who is still a force in the world of college basketball, is backing Haith’s candidacy.

Haith, completing his fifth season as Miami’s coach, signed a five-year contract extension last April that runs through the 2012-13 season.

Star guard Jack McClinton is a senior, which could influence Haith’s decision as well.

Miami, eliminated in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Thursday, is expected to receive an NIT bid on Sunday night.
