The way one NBA scout sees it, Doug McDermott could be the next Kyle Korver.
“He’s a first-round pick and he will have to go to a team that appreciates what he brings to the table as a scorer and not a defender or athlete,” the veteran scout told SNY.tv after watching McDermott put up 33 points Sunday when Creighton beat Nebraska, 82-67.
“He has no true position but will be a solid backup. Maybe he can be a version of Kyle Korver.”
That wouldn’t be a bad gig at all, considering Korver, also a Creighton grad, recently set an NBA record by making a 3-pointer in his 90th straight game.
Korver is averaging 12.3 points and shooting 52 percent from the arc.
McDermott, who opted to remain at Creighton for his senior season instead of coming out and is now a walk-on, is averaging 25.3 points and shooting 45 percent from deep.
On Monday, McDermott was named the Big East Player of the Week.
