Shaq to Pittsburgh…Shaq Doorson That Is

Shaq is headed to play for Jamie Dixon at Pittsburgh.

No, not that Shaq.

Shaquille Doorson, a 6-foot-11, 265-pound center from Holland and the Canarias Basketball Academy, signed an NLI to play for the ACC school. He will have four years of eligibility remaining.

“This was always the goal for me and the reason why I came to CBA,” he said in a statement. “My dream has come true, to know I’ll be playing in the ACC under a great coach and at a great program in a power house conference. I can only thank Rob Orellana and his coaching staff for pushing me every day to make this dream become a reality.”

Doorson, who was recruited by Pitt assistant Barry “Slice” Rohrssen, is the second CBA big man this week to sign with a current or future ACC team.

Matz Stockman, a 7-2 Norwegian, signed with Louisville earlier this week.

Doorson, 19, joins 6-7 small forward Ryan Luther of Hampton (Pa.) in Dixon’s 2014 recruiting class.

“He’s 6-foot 11, 265 pounds, he’s a big human being,” Orellana told SNY.tv. “He’s only been playing for two and a half years. He’s an unbelievable runner North and South. He has great hands. He’s a hard-worker. He just doesn’t know the game right now, he doesn’t understand the physicality of the game right now. He doesn’t understand the concepts right now. It’s going to take time.

“He has an unbelievably huge body, an ACC body. For a kid his age, he’s chiseled.”

CBA is currently in the U.S. and will play this weekend in the National Prep Showcase in New Haven, Conn. Dixon is expected to watch him play Friday night.
