Nick Richards added an offer from Kansas on Tuesday to go with one from UCLA.
“[Kansas assistant] Norm Roberts called Nick after school and offered him on a conference call,” St. Pat’s coach Chris Chavannes told SNY.tv. “Norm said [coach] Bill [Self] told him to offer him after seeing him in Lexington.”
The 6-foot-10 2017 big man who runs with Expressions Elite also has interest from North Carolina, Villanova and UConn, among others.
A sophomore who transferred in October from St. Mary’s High School on Long Island in order to face “better competition,” Richards has only been playing organized basketball for two years.
“Nick Richards has a tremendous upside with his length, athleticism and vertical and lateral quickness,” Chavannes said. “Considering the impact he can have on any game, it is scary when you realize that he has only been playing basketball for a couple of years. Coach Norm told Nick today that Coach Self believes he has endless potential and the sky is the limit, a projection that I fully endorse. Nick just finished his second year of playing high school ball and has begun his first AAU season for Expressions in the Nike EYBL. Nick is a great student and zero maintenance.”
Richards visited Villanova for their Midnight Madness event and has also been to Seton Hall. For now, though, he and his family are not emphasizing recruiting all that much.
