Chicago Curie big man Cliff Alexander Tweeted that he has a top five and will announce on his birthday, Nov. 16.
“TOP 5 Schools NO ORDER!!! Illinois, DePaul, Michigan State, Kansas, Memphis,” he Tweeted.
He had previously cut to six, including Arizona, but now they are out as well.
“There weren’t any certain reasons why he eliminated Arizona,” Curie coach Mike Oliver told ESPNChicago.com. “I think he likes the five schools he’s got. He knows more about them and is more comfortable with those five.”
The 6-foot-9 Alexander visited Kansas this past weekend for “Late Night in the Phog” along with Findlay Prep wing Kelly Oubre, who appears poised to pull the trigger today for Kansas.
“I been knowing coach [Jerrance] Howard since he was at Illinois,” Alexander said in a video interview before the visit. “He’s the guy that offered me my first scholarship so I love him for that.
“Coach [Bill] Self was at my house last week taking to my parents, building a relationship with my parents.”
Alexander will also visit Memphis Oct. 18 with JaQuan Lyle and Illinois the following weekend.
He and Lyle have talked about packaging together in college.
“He’s gone to DePaul and Kansas, and he liked both of them guys,” Oliver said. “He’s got two left with Illinois and Memphis coming up. He’s liked Michigan State from day one.”
