Duke Staff Watches Chase Jeter Dominate in Chicago
By NICK MEDLINESpecial to ZAGSBLOGCHICAGO — “There were a lot of things I could have done better,” Chase Jeter said of his Thursday performance at the Chicago Adidas Unrivaled Camp.
The following afternoon, there were no such concerns. In a critical matchup, he was nearly perfect.
Jeter scored 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting and added seven rebounds — all in 22 minutes — against fellow top-10 prospect Carlton Bragg.
“I’m just running the floor, blocking shots, getting rebounds and being a high motor guy,” Jeter said. “I did a better job of that today. “Me and Carlton, we’re really cool off the court. But when it’s time to go, we have a high competitive spirit.”
The 7-foot-center from Las Vegas dominated the game using all of the above. He likely impressed the many key coaches in attendance.
Most notably, Duke sent the three-man group of Mike Krzyzewski, Jon Scheyer and Jeff Capel to watch Jeter. It showed their commitment to recruiting him.
The Blue Devils are considered to be among the favorites — if not the favorite — in his recruitment. The Rivals.com No. 8 prospect in the Class of 2015 visited Duke in March.
Jeter said that it was a positive to see Duke so invested, adding: “It’s good to have that type of attention from a school.”
Jeter plans to make his decision in after the recruiting period, perhaps in early August, he told SNY.tv. Asked which teams are recruiting him the hardest into July, he listed the usual schools on his list: Arizona, Duke, UCLA and UNLV.
He also added Kansas to the list, one month after telling SNY.tv that the Jayhawks weren’t among the schools the hardest after him. For what it’s worth, Jeter did not list Oregon — the sixth school on his final list.
Kansas coach Bill Self joined the Duke squad in watching him. After Saturday’s performance, they all might as well recruit him even harder.
