  • Govan Hosts Seton Hall, UConn, Georgetown & Stanford on Home Visits

Jessie Govan, one of the top big men in the Class of 2015, has had a busy few nights at his home in Queens Village, N.Y.

The 6-foot-10, 260-pound Govan out of Wings Academy has hosted home visits with coaches from Seton Hall, UConn, Georgetown and Stanford, concluding Monday with Seton Hall  head coach Kevin Willard, associate head coach Shaheen Holloway and Director of Basketball Operations Grant Billmeier.

“It was good, they had a lot of great things to present,” Govan said of the Seton Hall visit. “They did good today, real good.”

Seton Hall went three deep in the visit and pitched that they need a big.

“They don’t really have a big man in the next two years,” Govan said. “They’re probably going to wind up playing Angel [Delgado] at the five next year, so they’re just looking to get a big man in my class and they’re looking for me to be that big.”

He added: “It’s good knowing that I can get playing time right away if I decide to go there. That’s always good. I know a lot of players on the team with Isaiah [Whitehead], Khadeen [Carrington] and Angel so that’s great.”

Govan plays AAU ball on the New York Lightning with both Delgado and Carrington, the MVP of Friday’s Jordan Brand Regional Game. He was in the building for the National Game, which featured UConn pledge Daniel Hamilton.

“I saw Khadeen got the MVP and Desi [Rodriguez] did real good,” Govan said.

Fresh off their NCAA championship, UConn coach Kevin Ollie and assistant Glen Miller visited with Govan on Friday.

“They have a lot of big men but they don’t have a big man that they can really throw it into and expect him to get a bucket so that’s what they’re expecting me to do if I decide to go there,” Govan said. “They just want me to definitely try and go there.”

Obviously, UConn is riding high coming off the NCAA win.

“I mean, that’s an honor because they just won a championship. They have a winning tradition at their school so it’s cool to be recruited by UConn,” Govan said. “It’s an honor.”

Georgetown head coach John Thompson III also visited ahead of Govan’s visit to campus May 2.

“He said Georgetown has a big tradition of big men,” Govan said. “He thinks I can be the next one in line if I decide to go there. They need a big man for 2015 because I think Josh Smith is graduating next year and they’re trying to fill that void with a big man.”

Stanford assistant Tim O’Toole also came in last week.

“He just presented Stanford as an athletic and academic school,” Govan said. “He didn’t officially offer yet until I get my SAT school back but he wanted me to know that they’re definitely watching and he hopes I can come make an impact at Stanford.”

Govan heads out Thursday to the EYBL stop in Sacramento and said he’s excited for the spring and summer.
