Jalen Coleman Down to 6, Will Take Officials

LAS VEGAS — Class of 2015 guard Jalen Coleman of Indianapolis (IN) La Lumiere cut his list down to six schools in late June, but the sharpshooter’s busy schedule has thus far kept him from taking official visits to any of the six.

Still, the 6-foot-3 Coleman believes he’s got a good handle on what each school has to offer, and feels he’s already got enough information to be able to make the best decision. His six are N.C. State, Indiana, UNLV, Michigan, Illinois and Notre Dame.

“Right now, I know a lot about each school,” Coleman said after the morning session on Thursday at the LeBron James Skills academy. “I just need to talk to my parents, and basically right now the decision comes down to me.”

Coleman does plan to make official visits once his summer schedule slows down.

“I definitely want to,” he said. “I’ve been to almost every school, except UNLV. But I know a lot about the program from talking to [assistant] coach Ryan [Miller]. So if need be, I’ll take visits.”

Coleman is a consensus top-40 player, and each of the schools on his list covets him for his elite outside shooting ability. He’s currently making 50 percent of his 3-point attempts in Nike EYBL play this summer, and he’s shot the ball well during the LeBron Skills camp.

When it comes time to make his college choice, Coleman listed a few factors in his decision.

“I’ve got to trust the coaching staff,” Coleman said. “I’ve got to be comfortable on and off the court. I’m definitely coming in and looking at the roster—who’s ahead of me, who’s behind me, and who’s coming in at the same time. So right now it’s a lot of different variables that I’m looking at.”
