Johnnies, Ohio State, Texas Offer 2015 Big Man Zimmerman

Since taking over at St. John’s in 2010, St. John’s coach Steve Lavin has had his share of success recruiting players from the West Coast.

Lavin landed Dwayne Polee of California in his first spring, and then added California guys Amir Garrett and Norvel Pelle in 2011. (Polee later transferred and Pelle never made it to campus after being declared academically ineligible. On Tuesday, he withdrew from the NBA Draft.)

Now Lavin is making a run at Stephen Zimmerman, the 7-foot 2015 big man from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas.

During a phone conversation Tuesday with Zimmerman and his stepmom, Lori Stevens, Lavin offered the big guy a scholarship.

“We’re offering you a scholarship and want you to know you will always have a home here,” Lavin told Zimmerman.

Ohio State and Texas also offered, joining a parade of big-time schools that includes Kentucky, UCLA, Arizona, Kansas and more.

“Just got an offer from The Ohio State University! The blessings keep coming!” Stephen Tweeted.

The competition for Zimmerman will be fierce but Lori said she had followed Lavin since his time at UCLA and that he had watched Steven play as a freshman.

“I watched Coach Lavin when he coaches at UCLA so I’m not a stranger to him,” she told SNY.tv. “I thought he was great then. He saw Stephen as a freshman, so it’s quite an honor. And he sent a really nice today. It was pictures of their uniforms and said, ‘Zimmerman would be unstoppable’ with his name on the back. It’s a good feeling knowing that his hard work is paying off.”

Zimmerman is lined up to play in New York at the Big Strick Classic Aug. 10, so he will get a taste of life in the Big Apple that weekend.

marijuana is not harmless.  we'll find that out in a couple years with all of the lung issues having to be paid for my medicare/obama care and how it'll crush the system.  Just because you all want to be drug addicted louts doesn't in any way alleviate the harm marijuana causes.  meh keep smoking i'll take care of you in the ICU while you're vented, anxious, have poor circulation and can't walk.

good luck with your weed life.

on a football note only idiots get caught with weed in their car especially when they have the money to build safety boxes into the car that a stupid cop will not see or find.  meh shows how dumb some of these guys are.

Marijuana is quickly gaining popularity in treating head injuries and cannabinoids, like THC, the main active chemical in marijuana, can protect the brain from trauma.

The NFL should encourage marijuana use, rather than suspend players for using this most harmless drug.

@funkymonk Oh, right, I was watching the Washington/Detroit game before literally turning it off because I couldn't stand watching RGIII get demolished anymore.

Chris Collinsworth....holy annoyance. "Ya gotta be ready for an all out blitz from a Rex Ryan defense at any time." Why don't I remember him doing that much during his jet tenure? Lol

He did it plenty of times, especially on third down, usually giving up a first down.

Between paying Albert Haynesworth & RG3 you gotta wonder how Daniel Snyder ever made money in business.....

Talk about bad investments !

At least we pay Geno what he is worth which is a bottom tier NFL salary.....

It's amazing, the injured and suspended Jets could probably field a competitive team.

A shame!

@williamg1 Since we're talking rappers, HOW ABOUT MELO GETTING CUCKOLDED BY MAINO, WHO IS A SHTTY RAPPER FROM BROOKLYN!? Gooooo Knicks!

I like how it starts by saying that this rumor is probably not true.

Maybe this is all a conspiracy, and the Knicks think Melo plays better angry, a la White Men Can't Jump.

@Bent I wonder what the % of these arrests/suspensions come from car-related incidents. It has to be at least half.

@Brendan

No way, then they're at risk of all being suspended at once.  I think they should continue to get it separately.
