Louisville, Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, Arizona Among Heavy Hitters in Mix for Troy Brown; Louisville Meets With Thornton
A Who’s Who of college basketball blue bloods is passing through Las Vegas to see Centennial High point guard Troy Brown, the No. 1-ranked floor general in the Class of 2017 according to 247Sports composite rankings.
Brown stands 6-foot-6 and is only 15 years old.
Louisville head coach Rick Pitino and Kansas assistant Kurtis Townsend watched Brown go for 28 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal Tuesday night.
“Pitino said he has two scholarships in that class and Troy can have both of them,” Anthony Brown, director of the Las Vegas Prospects AAU program, told SNY.tv after the game.
Kentucky assistant Barry “Slice” Rohrssen saw Brown on Monday.
“I mean, [shoot] who hasn’t been out?” Anthony Brown said.
“Coach K came out from Duke. Arizona’s been out. He’s had the heavy hitters come out to see him.”
Troy Brown already holds offers from Duke, UCLA, Arizona, Kansas and UNLV, among others. He took an unofficial to Duke in August.
Anthony said it’s still “way too early” in the recruiting process for Troy and a decision won’t come until “sometime in his senior year.”
At 6-6, his upside for a point guard is through the roof.
“You never want to compare a kid to your Penny Hardaways or your Magic Johnsons, your Jason Kidds, Shaun Livingston before the knee injury, but that’s what he is,” Anthony said. “He’s cut from that cloth.
“He’s a walking triple-double. He’s a pass-first point guard. You’d like him to be more aggressive to score the ball, but when you’re cut from the Magic Johnson cloth, that’s what you want to do, is you want to pass the ball.”
LOUISVILLE MEETS WITH THORNTON
While in Las Vegas, Louisville head coach Rick Pitino and assistant Wyking Jones also met Tuesday with 2016 Findlay Prep point guard Derryck Thornton, his father told SNY.tv.
Kentucky coach Barry “Slice” Rohrssen saw Thornton on Monday.
Thornton recently cut his list to 10 schools: Duke, Kentucky, Michigan, Louisville, Arizona, California, USC, Miami, UNLV and NC State.
