RICHMOND, Va. – After cutting his list to eight schools late last month, 2015 big man Stephen Zimmerman has been hearing from college coaches every day.
“Once I put out that list, everyone has texted me every day and they’re all keeping track of it,” Zimmerman said Saturday after his Oakland Soldiers team defeated All-Ohio Red 69-53 at EYBL Session 3.
The 7-footer explained that the time had come to cut the list to eight: Kansas, UNLV, North Carolina, Indiana, Louisville, Kentucky, UCLA and Arizona.
“I just felt that it was time. There was a certain amount of schools that stuck out to me, I just put them on my list,” Zimmerman told SNY.tv.
Playing here this weekend, Zimmerman is just a few hours from one of his top eight schools in North Carolina, and talked about the recruitment from head coach Roy Williams.
“Roy is real old-school, he talks instead of texting,” Zimmerman said. “They talk to me a lot, they really like me a lot. He just has a message that I can be a big part of their program.”
When asked about when he will cut his list next, he said for now he is just taking it easy, but it will be “probably around five”. Visiting those schools on his list is going to be a bit more of a challenge, with location being the reason why.
“I’ve taken unofficials to the close schools,” Zimmerman said. “The schools that are farther out on the East side…they are not as easy to get to, more expensive and stuff. Those are the schools I’m going to have to take officials to.”
