Jermaine Lawrence Setting Visits; Brown to SMU

Jermaine Lawrence, one of the most sought after forwards in the Class of 2013, visited St. John’s Friday for Midnight Madness and has several other visits coming up this fall.

“My family and I enjoyed St. John’s Midnight Madness, but we are not making any decisions at this time,” Lawrence said in a statement. “We still have other schools to visit.”

The 6-foot-10 senior from Pope John  XXIII (N.J.) plans to take visits to Cincinnati, Syracuse, UNLV and Kansas over the next few months. No dates are currently scheduled.

Lawrence is also considering UCLA and Kentucky and will sign in the spring.

Sterling Brown, a 6-4 shooting guard from Maywood (Ill.) Proviso East, committed to SMU over Miami, Missouri, Xavier, Memphis, Northwestern, Providence and DePaul, according to the Sun Times.

“I just felt it was the perfect fit for me and my family,” Brown told “Everything about it is great. I can bring toughness, leadership and diversity on and off the court.”

Brown is the Rivals No. 37 shooting guard in the Class of 2013. He averaged 13 points, 9.7 rebounds and nearly 3 assists as a junior.

SMU coach Larry Brown coached Shannon Brown, Sterling’s older brother, with the Charlotte Bobcats, and the family also has a relationship with SMU assistant Jerrance Howard.

Brewster shooting guard Ron Patterson is due to take an official to SMU Wednesday.
