Syracuse Signee McCullough Drops 26 in Loss to Brewster
Syracuse signee Chris McCullough began the season playing for Brewster (N.H.) Academy.
On Saturday afternoon, he played against them and put up 26 points.
In the end, Brewster beat McCullough and IMG Academy, 95-86 in OT, in the final of the Brewster Invitational.
Devonte Graham, who has still not been released from Appalachian State, poured in 36 points for Brewster (10-1), including a 3-pointer with 1.4 seconds left in regulation to force the OT.
McCullough was kicked out of Brewster last month for a violation of team rules and then enrolled at IMG, news first reported by SNY.tv.
“Chris played great,” Brewster coach Jason Smith told SNY.tv. “He’s a stud. It was awesome to see him. We miss him a lot.
“It was a nice win for our team, considering we were down double-digits. Great character win for our kids. We have a lot of sickness and injuries.”
The 6-foot-10 McCullough also went for 26 points in a semifinal win over Notre Dame Prep on Friday.
“Having to go through the difficult change of systems, Chris played very well,” IMG coach John Mahoney, a former assistant under John Beilein at Michigan, told SNY.tv. “He is an extremely talented player that will only get better. He is not the finished product.
“I think the team realized how good they are and what it takes to compete at a high level. It was a great learning experience.”
