  • Daniels, Traylor to Announce Wednesday

IMG forwards DeAndre Daniels and Jamari Traylor are about to end their recruitments.

“DeAndre is going to make his decision tomorrow [Wednesday],” IMG Academies coach Andy Borman confirmed by phone Tuesday.

He later added that Traylor would also announce then.

The 6-foot-8 Daniels is down to Kansas and Texas.

He initially committed to Texas out of Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft High, only to decommit and spend a year at IMG.

Sources close to the situation indicated Texas remains in strong position for Daniels, but the situation remains in flux because Daniels has gone back and forth on his decision.

Kansas, meantime, is still hoping they can land some combination of Daniels, Traylor, a 6-8 power forward, and shooting guard Trevor Lacey, who will also announce Wednesday.

Lacey is mulling Kansas, Kentucky and Alabama, while Traylor is considering Kansas, Indiana, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State.

“How we do in the next 10 days,” Kansas coach Bill Self told The Kansas City Star, “could very well determine whether or not we have a chance to win the league next year or have a chance just to keep our head above water. I think we’ll be good no matter what. I like the guys. If we’re able to finish strong (in recruiting), we’ll be good.”

Kansas lost the Morris twins and guard Josh Selby to the NBA.

Texas, meantime, lost Tristan Thompson, Cory Joseph and Jordan Hamilton. On Monday they added former Maryland guard Sterling Gibbs, who will complement Myck Kabongo in the backcourt.

But the addition of Daniels would help the Longhorns offset the losses of Thompson and Hamilton.

“He is an extremely talented young man, but what sets him apart from other talented kids his age is that fact that he is extremely driven and focused on becoming the best player possible,” Borman said recently.

“He is an immediate impact player at the next level.”
