UCLA-bound point guard Kyle Anderson will have an MRI on his left thumb today (Monday) at 3 p.m. and could be sidelined for up to three months with surgery, his father told SNY.tv.

“He could possibly need surgery,” Kyle Anderson Sr. told SNY.tv. “I’m glad he was able to get through the all-star games.”

Anderson Sr. said his son jammed his thumb on the backboard during a practice before St. Anthony played Gill St. Bernard’s in the New Jersey Non-Public B state final. The Friars went on to complete their second straight unbeaten season, bringing Anderson to 65-0 during his time under Hall of Famer Bob Hurley.

“He’s just played with it but he hurt it again in the McDonald’s Game,” Kyle Sr. said.

They saw a specialist Thursday who told them it looked like ligament damage and  the “worst-case scenario is he needs surgery and is out for three months,” Kyle Sr. said.

“He’s devastated because he doesn’t want to miss IS8,” he said. “This is his last IS8.”

Anderson and 6-6 wing Shabazz Muhammad are the cornerstones of UCLA’s incoming 2012 recruiting class.

Tony Parker is due to announce on Monday and is considering UCLA, Ohio State, Kansas, Duke and Georgia.
