UCLA’s Parker Hoping to Meet With Alford, Uncertain About Future

WASHINGTON, D.C. — UCLA freshman Tony Parker is hoping to meet with new Bruins coach Steve Alford and remains uncertain about his future, his father told SNY.tv Saturday.

After UCLA had initially targeted VCU’s Shaka Smart and Butler’s Brad Stevens, Alford agreed to a seven-year deal worth $2.6 annually, according to CBSSports.com. The former Indiana star signed a 10-year deal with New Mexico on March 20.

“I don’t know if we’re going to meet with him or he’s going to meet with us, or if he would entertain it,” Virgil Parker said by phone. “I haven’t heard anything from them. I haven’t heard from the athletic director, I haven’t heard from anyone.”

UCLA will likely lose freshman Shabazz Muhammad to the NBA Draft, while fellow freshman Kyle Anderson will return for his sophomore year.

UCLA assistant Korey McCray recruited both Parker and fellow frosh Jordan Adams and is hoping to remain on Alford’s staff but it is unclear if Alford will retain him, a source with direct knowledge told SNY.tv.

The 6-foot-9 Parker did not have a good experience in his freshman season under former coach Ben Howland, his father said. He averaged just 2.4 points and 1.2 rebounds.

“It wasn’t a good experience for him out there,” Virgil said. “There’s a lot of people out there that have a fingerprint on his whole situation, if you sit back and watch this whole thing unveil.

“It was hard on us as a family, as you could imagine. It wasn’t a good experience.”

Virgil said he wasn’t certain if the situation would change with Alford.

“It could be,” he said. “At the same time, Ben Howland had a reason for not playing Tony. Hopefully it will be a better experience for him with him being another coach, you know?”

Virgil said it was possible his son might transfer but he’s hoping to meet with Alford first.

“He just might, I don’t know,” Virgil. “I really don’t know. I know he’s going to give that guy a chance to sit down with him and talk with him or whatever.”

**Rysheed Jordan is still considering UCLA. Story here.

Show some guts and start Simms. You already wasted too many games on a hack no talent like Geno.

Vick, here's a clue, you have no future with the Jets, and your ball boy friend Geno? if he's lucky the Jets will keep him as a back up, but the chances are he'll be joining you and Idzik in the unemployment line, if Jet fans are lucky.

i think smith deserves another year. in fact i know he does. given with what he has had to work with in the skill positions he has done a very commendable job. he played the prohibitive favorites to win the super bowl the pats very very well. in fact he played better than brady both games. if these fans think winston or mariotta is going to come in here and turn this team around instantly they are in for a rude awakening. in fact they will play worse than smith has i guarantee that

What do you guys think of Brett Hundley? I have not seen him play, but he's big (6'3"+), has completed 70% of his passes this year, and seems to hold onto the ball. Is this a second round guy who has upside like Bridgewater or bust-in-waiting like Geno?

Merry Kwanza, may Kwanzaclaus bring you lots of goodies.  Like a franchise QB for the Jets .

If we are positioned 3, 4, 5 or 6 in the draft, what would it take to move up to #1? Also in terms of who has the #1 pick after next weeks games, what would entice either TB or TN? TB they have the pieces on defense so all they would be needing are offensive players and a QB so I think we are hoping TN gets the #1 pick, they can use some help on defense, I'm thinking maybe they can be swayed to trade, maybe trade Kenrick Ellis, our #1 pick, a third round pick, and maybe a mid round pick in next year's draft?

There may be 6 or so Jets who should feel sure about their future with the team after this season.  For the rest, we coulda won 3 lousy games without you!

You showed you still got the legs Vick, I suggest you use them to run as far away from this team as you can. Try Buffalo or Tampa.

>>Michael Vick is making it known that he’s not only unsure about staying with the Jets next season, but that maybe he might not want to

We let Vick down, all of us.  He busted his ass for us, and we let him down.  I feel really bad, and so should all of you.

---------------------------------------------

>>“I still feel like I have a lot left in the tank,” said Vick. “I can’t say it’s five years worth, but maybe it’s a good solid two. I’m just going to train for that, get ready for that and set my mindset

No aging athlete has ever said that before, what a guy, I admire him.

Vick is a courageous human being.

"Make 90 million in endorsements and salary of torture dogs and go to prison.  Tough choice, but I've got to go with #2"

Vick may get the Veterans minimum as a backup somewhere.  I wouldn't want him just because of his attitude.  Had he been prepared and come in and performed he could have played more.  Instead he was collecting a paycheck.  Just retire and go away.

Put up your money then  :-)

Geno stank last year, and this.  It wouldn't be too hard for Mariota to just "suck a little" and be better than Geno.

@nagel100  lol, it's not what you think, he's referring to after he retires, he's not sure if he should get into real estate or make albums..lol

@Pablo Bruno the 2 worst teams need a QB and are not going to trade out.  no matter what we offer.

just draft Cooper who is actually a blue chip wide out.

Bent

@Pablo Bruno Ellis will be out of contract.  Can't trade him.

At the top end of the draft the cost of moving up can vary from year to year depending on what the demand is.

Happy Christmas, Pablo!

@nagel100 @Pablo Bruno  Yea, I'm just not sure if we'll see someone a QB with as much talent the the upcoming drafts, next year we'll see a few good ones Christian Hackenberg and Connor Cook, but they aren't as talented, if only Connor Cook comes out this year than I would feel good, but yikes, are we going to have to suck to get one of those two..lol, I agree getting Cooper and we let Harvin walk, now we won't have a big impact on the salary cap and perhaps we can sign some offensive linemen, some decent corners and a good FA QB and who knows.

@Bent @Pablo Bruno  I'm Jewish but thanks Bent, Happy holidays to you as well.  The Jets need to figure out how to get Winston, after this draft I don't see anyone that is remotely close to being elite do you in the foreseeable future? Do you agree that the Titans would be more willing to trade than say the Bucs and that we should hope the Titans end up picking first?

Happy Hanukkah then!

My concern is that Winston might not be seen as remotely close to being elite by then either.

Anything can happen in draft season.  I'm not really all that concerned with who finishes where.

@Bent @Pablo Bruno  Thanks Bent, if we can't get Winston might as well draft who ever is available in the later rounds and get a FA and keep Geno, maybe he can turn things around.

Yeah, we need a few options this year and hopefully one will rise to the fore.
