Big East Report: Palm on Big East Bracketology

In the latest edition of The Big East Report, Jerry Palm, publisher of CollegeRPI.com, talks about Big East Bracketology.

In his latest bracket released Tuesday, Palm has up to 11 Big East teams making the Big Dance.

Palm has conference leader Pitt as a No. 1 overall seed, Notre Dame as a 2 and UConn, Georgetown and Villanova all as 3 seeds.

Syracuse is a 4, Louisville a 5 and St. John’s a 6.

West Virginia is a 7, while Cincinnati and Marquette still have some work to do.

Why would anyone be surprise that Jack "No" Skille was place on waivers?   And since Skille plays a very similar game to Colon McDonald, I would also waive McDonald too while Snow is at it.

The guy is not a productive NHL player, no bang for little bucks. I would rather play the kids like Collberg, Persson or Sundstrom, then waste roster spots on unproductive minor leagers like Gallant, Helmo, McDonad ans Skille.

So after all the preseason hoopla about the large amount of forwards brought into camp to shake things up and add some fear into the dead wood - looks like we will be (most likely) starting the season with Bailey, (WHO SHOWED NOTHING THIS PRESEASON - so much for putting fear into the dead wood) and we are going to (most likely) have the same pathetic 4th line of Martin/Cizikas/McDonald (-45 +/- last season) ... I'm also looking forward to Grabner - "the Tease"  putting up another "half season run" of NO GOALS.... pathetic... Maybe these bums prove me wrong... I'm still excited about this season... :-)

Do we lose any of these guys off the waiver wire?  Do we care if we do?  I would care only if both goalies were picked, but I can't see that happening.

Off topic, Leddy is supposedly going to be moved as soon as today.  What do we offer in terms of pick/prospect?  Are we interested?

Leddy for Pokka and Lee, IF the Isles are allowed to talk contract prior to finalizing the deal.

Leddy right now is a second pair defender who is RFA controlled.

Pokka and Lee could be very good players, but I don't see any desperate need for another scoring forward right now. With both Dal Collie and Ho-Sang in the mix, the Isles should be covered there going forward.

It is an overpay, but second pair defenders are hard to find and the leaves the Isles looking at Pulock, Reinhart, CdH, Hammer and Leddy as their top 5 blue line possibly by mid season. All under long term contract control. Scary good.

The isles would be dealing from depth moving a forward and a defensive prospect- but Reinhart and Pulock sure look like the real thing, and instead of waiting for another guy to develop, Leddy is approaching the prime of his career.

He plugs in right now as second pair- 20 minutes a night right now on one of the strongest teams in the NHL.

Bold, expensive and risky. But your losing two guys NOT on the roster, and adding a guy who makes the "weakest" part of the roster possible the strongest blue line in the division next season. Leddy has been there, and done that in the playoffs.

At some point, you need to sell some future for the "Great Leap Forward". The Hawks add no salary.

@since72 I think you have to offer a prospect, as the hawks are over cap limit, which means no Bailey.  Maybe Pedan or Pelech?  I like Leddy's speed, and he doesn't take a whole lot of penalties, and can add offense, but it is disconcerting that he didn't get a whole lot of icetime in the postseason.

He was just good compared to what we had in the system at the time. He was never a highly regarded player in any rankings. If he was to be put into our system on a fresh start now he'd be ranked as our 6th or 7th best d prospect at best.

@John Falcone    I have to ask, who does he replace in the lineup and does that make the D markedly better than it would otherwise be?  The answer may be Brennan right now with Carkner getting the boot if it happens.  I think that makes us clearly better.  Depends what we have to give up.  It may take Pedan, Pelech, Mayfield or even Pokka to get this done.  I think I would have to do it.  He is an RFA next season so at least it's not a rental.
