NEW YORK — Emmanuel Mudiay will announce his college choice on Saturday at the Elite 24, with at least one source close to the recruitment telling SNY.tv Mudiay is expected to pick SMU over Kentucky, Baylor, Kansas and Oklahoma State.

In this video interview done Thursday afternoon, the 6-foot-4 Mudiay out of Dallas (TX) Prime Prep gave no hint that he would be announcing Saturday night.

“I’m just taking it day by day, but we’re going to see,” he said. “We’re going to see.”

Mudiay breaks down all five schools in the video.

A Dallas native, he has visited SMU several times unofficially and has repeatedly said he likes the fact that SMU is close to home and that head coach Larry Brown is a father figure.

“Larry Brown, I’m real close to him,” he said. “He’s a good coach, good person, first off. I’m real close with their staff but that’s with a lot of staffs.

“So it’s going to be interesting to see what I end up doing.”

Mudiay would be a huge get for Brown and his staff, as he is ranked among the top five players in the Class of 2014 and is considered a future NBA prospect.

If Mudiay does pick SMU, Kentucky could end up striking out on its top two point guard options, as many observers expect Tyus Jones to ultimately land at Duke.

Meantime, Huntington (W.V) Prep point guard Josh Perkins is expected to pick Gonzaga on Saturday.

Kentucky recently offered Chicago Marian Heights point guard Tyler Ulis, who will take an official visit to campus the weekend of Sept. 8

With Andrew Harrison projected as a lottery pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Kentucky will need to find a point guard somewhere if they miss out on Mudiay, Jones and Perkins.
