  • Rashanti Harris, a 6-8, 238-pound power forward from Mississippi playing at The Patterson (NC) School, has committed to Georgia State.

This may come as a blow to Memphis fans, who had hoped he might play for the Tigers.

“He has known coach (Rod) Barnes since eighth grade,” Paula Barnes, Harris’s coach with the Columbus Titans, told Rivals. “He knew him when he was at Ole Miss. Coach Barnes was one of the first coaches to recruit him when he was at Ole Miss.

“He continued to call him when he went to Oklahoma [as an assistant coach] and then now at Georgia State. Coach Barnes has gotten to know their family really well…He had developed a great relationship with them.”

Johnriek7_18200John Riek is headed back to IMG Academy for another year.

Riek, a 7-foot-2 native of the Sudan, had entered his name into the NBA Draft, but pulled it out after his advisors learned he would not be taken in the first round, if at all.

“He’s going to stay at IMG (in Bradenton, Fla.) for a year,” said Fatah Muraisi, a U.S. Army captain born in Yemen who advises Riek. “That way he’ll have a more favorable position (next year) and better health.”

MarkuskennedycorrectOne name to keep an eye on in the Class of 2010 is forward Markus Kennedy of St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, N.J.

The latest big man to play for head coach Kevin Boyle, Kennedy already holds ofers from Villanova, Rutgers and Xavier, according to his Team New Jersey ABC coach Matt Pauls. The 6-8, 230-pound Kennedy also has heavy interest from Miami, St. John’s, Ohio State, Michigan State and Penn State.

“Markus has great hands, excellent footwork, nice touch from 15-17 feet, and is a strong passer for his size,” Pauls said. “He needs to improve on the defensive end, and must get stronger and improve his endurance.”

CrosgileJustin Crosgile, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound combo guard from Wayne (NJ) DePaul Catholic, has made his choice.

He has committed to St. Joseph’s.
“I like St.Joe’s,” Crosgile, a native of Paterson, said Wednesday night. “It’s not too far from home. It’s a small school. They have been pursuing me. They showed me a lot of interest. My brother (Marcus) is going there.”
