  • Dennis to Memphis?

Despite Internet reports to the contrary, Nolan Dennis, a 6-5 shooting guard out of North Richland (Texas),  has not committed to Memphis, although he may well be headed there. Dan Wolken has an excellent blog post on this and I can confirm this report from a Memphis source.

In other Memphis news, Wesley Witherspoon made the first cut for the USA U18 team headed to Argentina later this month. He is among a crowded group of wings and it will be interesting to see if the makes the final cut of 12 on July 7. He looked fidgety and distracted at times during practice today when head coach Bob McKillop, a no-nonsense guy if there ever was one, demanded strict attention.

Also, Lance Stephenson mentions Kansas, Tennessee and Memphis when asked for his list, while Lance Sr. says Kansas, USC, UCLA and St. John’s, although he also said Memphis in a recent interview with Northstar Basketball, a rising site for basketball info.

Memphis is working hard on Xavier Henry and Derrick Favors, and the Dennis commitment, should it happen, would likely not impact those recruitments. Finally, look for Memphis to make a push on Michael Gilchrist, the super sophomore from St. Patrick of Elizabeth, who is related to Worldwide Wes.
