    Kevin Parrom says he’s considering attending South Carolina, and it can’t hurt that Michael Boynton, a Brooklyn native who played at Bishop Loughlin High, is an assistant there.

    “I talked to coach Boynton a couple of days ago,” Parrom told PalmettoSports.com, which covers South Carolina hoops. “South Carolina is still up there in the mix. They will most likely be in my top five. They’ve been loyal to me and they are just a good school.”

    Boynton, a former South Carolina standout, was hired in May by head coach Darrin Horn.  During his tenure at Loughlin, Boynton earned first team All-New York City honors after leading his team to a 24-4 mark and a berth in the city semifinals. He averaged 15 points, 4 rebounds and 11 assists, including setting the single-game school record for assists with 16.

    Dominic Cheek, Memphis, Rutgers, Seton Hall, UConn, Villanova

    Dominic Cheek plans on holding off until early next month before announcing his preliminary college list, coaches for the Playaz Basketball Club said. 

    The 6-foot-5 Cheek, the No. 4 shooting guard in the Class of 2009 according to Rivals, recently told reporters in Connecticut that UConn, Villanova, Tennessee, Wake Forest and Kansas will make the list and that he’s planning an official visit to UConn.

    Memphis is also very interested in Cheek, a first-team All-New Jersey selection last season when the Friars went 32-0 and won the mythical national championship and the New Jersey Tournament of Champions. 

    Georgia Tech, High School Transfers

    It isn’t often that a player announces his high school destination after picking his college one.

    But that is exactly the case with Brian Oliver, a 6-foot-5 small forward from Delaware who has committed to Georgia Tech.

    Oliver will return to William Penn High School in New Castle, Del. for his senior season a year after transferring to Oak Hill Academy from William Penn.

     “After taking the time to weight all the pros and cons of returning (to Oak HIll), going to another private school or going back to William Penn, Brian wanted to come home and enjoy his last year of high school with his friends and family,” his mother, Zena, said in an email. “Being home and being at William Penn, he will be able to enjoy things as a senior that he would have missed out on if he went somewhere else.”

    Georgia Tech, Kansas, Lance Stephenson, Recruiting, St. John's, Tennis

    Some quick hits on a Friday evening in the summer…

    **Information on Lance Stephenson’s recruitment has been hard to come by in recent weeks, but Lance is reportedly high on Kansas, Memphis, USC and Texas. His father has also mentioned St. John’s and UCLA. No visits have been set as far as we can tell, although Lance has unofficially visited USC, UCLA and St. John’s.

    He also told me he’d consider going to Europe a la Brandon Jennings.

    Lance is coming off a 34-point outburst in the final of the adidas Basketball Experience in Dallas. We should hear more about his recruitment next week at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 event at Rucker Park.

    John Wall, Memphis

    As the head coach at Word of God Academy in Raleigh, N.C., Levi Beckwith will preside over a team with several potential future pros, including John Wall, the No. 1 player in the Class of 2009 according to Rivals. I caught up with Levi today for an interview and here are his thoughts on a few subjects, including Wall’s recruitment, 6-foot-9, 290-pound Keith “Tiny” Gallon and his goals for the season.

    AZ: Is Keith “Tiny” Gallon going to play for you this upcoming season?

    LB: His mom has contacted us and we have contacted (Oak Hill) coach (Steve) Smith to let him know they contacted us and everything, so I know he’s interested in coming. I know she has called our office to get the paperwork, so I know that his paperwork is being processed at this time.

    AZ: So is it just kind of a formality of his paperwork being processed?

    LB: I hope so. (laughs)

    Recruiting, Rutgers, Seton Hall

    After talking yesterday with Givon Crump, he mentioned that he is considering both Rutgers and Seton Hall, as well as Oregon State, Michigan, DePaul, Wake Forest, South Florida and SMU.

    “I’m going to sit down with the coach (Brewster coach Jason Smith) and my parents and talk about which schools are the best fit,” Crump said by phone. “I’m going to take some visits and go  ahead and make a decision.”

    Crump, a  6-foot-6, 210-pound small forward ranked No. 26 among small forwards in the Class of 2009, said he didn’t know much about Seton Hall but is being recruited by head coach Bobby Gonzalez and assistant Derm Player.

    “I haven’t made any plans to visit the school,” he said. “We’ve talked about possibly having a visit with them. The situation is pretty new to me.”
