    Karron Johnson, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound power forward from Mount Zion Academy in North Carolina who has been compared to Kenyon Martin, says Seton Hall is his No. 1 choice at this point.

    Johnson said he has a “great relationship” with Pirates head coach Bobby Gonzalez as well as assistants Derm Player and Scott Adubato.

    “I really like their personality,” Johnson said Thursday at an event for Friday’s Boost Mobile Elite 24 event that will be televised live on ESPNU. “You don’t want to go somewhere and you don’t have good relationships with the coaches, so I’m basically looking for a great relationship wherever I go.

    Kansas

    Plenty of news coming out of the Kansas basketball program — most of it bad.

    The attorney for Markieff Morris entered a not guilty plea and argued that Morris did not fire an Airsoft rifle BB gun out of his Jayhawker Towers apartment Saturday night, according to KUSports.com.

    The KU Public Safety Office reported that Morris, an 18-year-old Philly native who played last year at Apex Academy in Cherry Hill, N.J., admitted to shooting the BB gun out of his apartment. A 47-year-old woman in the courtyard below received minor injuries when she was hit in the arm by a plastic pellet. According to a police report, Morris was suspected of using alcohol.

    Grassroots, Villanova

    Twenty-four hours after the Boost Mobile Elite 24 event at Rucker Park, Nike will host a High Elite Youth All-Star Game at Goat Park.

    The day will feature several games, and some of the top prep players in the area are slated to attend: North Carolina commit Dexter STrickland of St. Patrick (pictured) and Villanova-bound Maalik Wayns, both of whom are in the Boost Mobile event; Shaquille Stokes of St. Patrick; JayVaughn Pinkston of Bishop Loughlin; Lamont “Momo” Jones; Fuquan Edwin and Shaq Thomas of Paterson Catholic; and Kevin Parrom of South Kent (Conn.).

    John Wall, Kansas, Memphis

    NEW YORK – As the No. 1 player in the Class of 2009, John Wall says he can’t wait to play in Friday’s Boost Mobile Elite 24 event in Harlem’s legendary Rucker Park.

    “I’m very excited to come out here,” Wall said Thurday. “It’s one of the main courts, Rucker Park, and you’re out here with some of the other 23 great players…I’ve never really been to the park.”

    And what does the North Carolina native think of New York on his fourth visit to the Big Apple?

    “It’s a lot of traffic,” he said. “There’s more traffic than what it is back home. People are blowing the horn a lot, but it’s a big city, it’s a busy place.”
