Pitt’s 34-10 blowout of UConn on Saturday likely means Rutgers will play in the Papajohns.com Bowl Dec. 29 in Birmingham, Ala.
Pitt will likely get the Sun Bowl bid, where it will play either Oregon State or Cal.
Big East champ Cincinnati is probably headed to the Orange Bowl. West Virginia, which hosts South Florida, tonight, will probably play North Carolina in the Meineke Car Care Bowl Dec. 27 in Charlotte. UNC hammered Rutgers, 44-12, in the season-opener and bowls tend to avoid mismatches.
UConn is going to the International Bowl, probably to play Buffalo.
South Florida will play in the St. Petersburg Bowl.
That likely leaves Mike Teel and company headed to Birmingham against either Troy or N.C. State.
“I’m a competitor, I like to compete,” Rutgers coach Greg Schiano said after his team crushed Louisville, 63-14, on Thursday. “Wherever we end up we’ll end up with a really great opponent and a great environment, so I’m kind of game for just about anything.”
