  • Hasheem Thabeet helped lead UConn to the Final Four last month and will soon be an NBA lottery pick.

Like the 7-foot-3 Thabeet, John Riek hails from Africa. And like Thabeet, Riek stands over 7 feet tall.

But Dan Barto, Riek’s coach at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla., says Riek is ahead of where Thabeet was at this same point in his career.

“We played against Thabeet when he was down in Texas [at school],” Barto said by phone. “And Riek’s ahead of where Thabeet was, in my opinion.”

The point guard dominoes have begun to fall.

Although Kentucky has yet to receive official notice from Eric Bledsoe’s camp, Bledsoe will announce for Kentucky during a press conference Wednesday morning at Parker (AL) High, according to a source close to the situation.

“I got it from a college coach who’s recruiting him,” the source said. “He told some staffs where he’s not going. He said, ‘Kentucky’s my school.'”

Jerry Meyer of Rivals and MemphisRoar.com also indicate the 6-foot-1 Bledsoe will play for John Calipari and not Josh Pastner of Memphis next year.

Bledsoe averaged 20.4 points, 11.2 rebounds and 10.3 assists in leading Parker to the Class 5A state championship game. The Thundering Herd beat Kentucky-bound big man DeMarcus Cousins and Mobile (AL) LeFlore 52-39 in the semifinals.

Call it the calm before the storm.

Things are quiet on the point guard front right at this moment.

Eric Bledsoe, John Wall, James Beatty, Malcolm Armstead….even Jio Fontan.

No one honestly knows where these guys are going to end up, but the dominoes are on the brink of falling…and falling quickly.

The 6-foot-2 Bledsoe (pictured) is due to announce his college choice Wednesday at 10 a.m. Alabama time, 11 o’clock EST. Despite reports that Bledsoe had chosen Kentucky, sources at both Kentucky and Memphis said Tuesday that they had received no indication from the Bledsoe camp on his choice.

There is good news and bad news for Rutgers hoops fans.

    First, the good news.

Dane Miller, a 6-5 wing from Rochester Rush-Henrietta, is on the mend after suffering a rotator cuff injury that kept him from playing last month in the Jordan Brand Regional Game at MSG.

“It’s OK,” Miller said by text. “I’m doing therapy now. It’s feeling better.”

Miller plans to be on campus in June for summer school.

Eric Bledsoe knows where he wants to go to college, and he’ll tell the world on Wednesday.

“Yeah, he’ll announce it Wednesday,” Parker (AL) coach Maurice Ford said Monday by phone.

The 6-foot-1 Bledsoe visited both Memphis and Kentucky this past weekend and has made his decision between the two.

“He had a good time at both schools,” Ford said. “He enjoyed both of them.”

Bledsoe is ranked No. 3 among point guards by Rivals.

Current Memphis head coach Josh Pastner recruited Bledsoe when he was an assistant to John Calipari at Memphis and Bledsoe said the two still have a close relationship. Bledsoe

On the one hand, the Daily News is reporting Arizona will make a “big push” for Lance Stephenson.

And on the other, Jeff Goodman is citing a source saying Arizona is “not expected to make a move” on Stephenson.

Hard to know what to make of it, right?

The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

A source within the Arizona program said Arizona is still interested in Lance, saying of the second report, “That’s news to me.”
