Things sure aren’t looking good for USC coach Tim Floyd and the athletic department at Southern Cal as a whole.
Yahoo! Sports, the same people who broke open the UConn/Nate Miles recruiting violations case, reported Floyd paid a runner in cash in order to help bring star guard O.J. Mayo to Southern Cal. Mayo is now in the NBA.
Louis Johnson, a one-time Mayo confidant, has told both NCAA investigators and federal authorities that Floyd gave at least $1,000 in cash to Rodney Guillory, a man who allegedly gave Mayo improper benefits while the guard played at USC.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Since I last wrote about Trevor “T.J.” Clemmings of Paterson Catholic back in February, he has added a slew of big-time scholarship offers and made quite a name for himself.
Chris Melvin, a recruiting analyst for EliteRecruits.com, calls Clemmings the No. 1 prospect in New Jersey in the Class of 2010.
“He’s my top player in the state, without a question in my mind,” Melvin said at the recent Big Time Football Showcase at Rutgers. “He’s raw. The kid still has a long way to go.”
NEW YORK – Jamie Dixon says change is coming to the Big East next year.

“Cincinnati, St. John’s, Seton Hall,” Dixon said Wednesday at a coaches clinic at Madison Square Garden. “Those are going to be more experienced teams. There are some very experienced
“He tried to get [Kentucky-commit] Eric Bledsoe as his first step to reviving that program. As of right now, Zeke has the upper hand on Arizona, Memphis and whoever else, for reasons I’m not at liberty to speak about.”
Rutgers sophomore guard Earl Pettis is the latest Scarlet Knight to leave the program.
Sources say Pettis, a Philadelphia native, is considering La Salle, Temple and Rider. Pettis’ older brother played at Rider several years ago.
“Earl and I had a meeting in which he expressed his desire to return home to Philadelphia,” said Rutgers head coach Fred Hill. “After discussing the matter with Earl and his family, we support his decision and will aid the process. Earl is a tremendous young man who has been a valuable member of the program for the past two seasons. We wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors.”
Pettis played 20 games last season and averaged 4.6 points and 2.5 rebounds in 17.6 minutes.
