NEW YORK — Josh Selby’s commitment to Kansas is already paying dividends.
After committing to the Jayhawks Saturday night during the Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden, Selby said he would try and recruit 6-8 forward Terrence Jones to Kansas.
“I wish I had Doron Lamb but he chose Kentucky but now I’m working on getting Terrence Jones to fill Xavier Henry’s spot,” Selby said.
As it turns out, Selby is having an impact.
After putting up 17 points and 9 rebounds in the Jordan Classic, Jones told reporters he planned to visit Kansas before announcing April 23 or April 30 alongside 6-5 Portland (Ore.) Jefferson teammate Terrence Ross.
“Hopefully, I will get that done,” Jones said, according to the Lawrence Journal World & News. “I have one official visit left. I want to use it.”
Jones, the No. 13 prospect in the Class of 2010, initially said his final five consisted of UCLA, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Oregon and Washington.
Kansas had been on his list prior to that. But with the addition of Selby to the Jayhawks, Bill Self’s club is now back in the running for Jones.
“He’s anxious for me to join him,” Jones told the Lawrence Journal World & News. “He feels it would be best for both of us. Possibly, we could do great things there.”
He added of Selby: “It’s not that many words. It’s pretty much just a, ‘Whatcha want to do man? Whatcha want to do?’”
Jones said last week that he and Ross would announce together either April 23 or April 30.
Ross is considering Kansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Oregon and Washington.
The Jayhawks reportedly have just one scholarship remaining but a team source said the program could take both Jones and Ross.
Asked if they would both go to the same school, Jones said;
“It could happen but I want him to do what’s best for him and me to do what’s best for me,” Jones said. “If that’s together then that’s good. But if it’s not then I’ll respect it.”
In the meantime, Doron Lamb, Kentucky’s latest commit, is working on bringing Jones to the Bluegrass.
Said Lamb: “I’m gonna try and recruit them but I think they’re gonna come to Kentucky, though.”
