Ra’Shad James, a White Plains, N.Y. native who averaged 16.6 points and 4.7 rebounds last year at Division 2 St. Thomas Aquinas, has transferred to Iona.

James was a Second-Team All-Conference selection in the East Coast Conference.

The 6-foot-1, 183-pound combo guard will pay his own way this coming season and then join the team in 2011 for two years.

“My whole thing is I’m about winning so the previous school that I was at wasn’t fulfilling that standard of mine,” James said. “I want to get a chance  to play there.”

He chose Iona over North Carolina Central, Shaw and Johnson C. Smith.

“I’m going to bring hard work and passion,” he said. “I want to learn each and every day being in practice. I’ll bring them leadership and heart.”
