David Stern may have gotten Howard Sterned.
OK, so it may not have been Howard Stern’s people who interrupted Stern’s conference call Friday with reporters.
But a caller who identified himself as Bob Yates and said he was associated with the Kidd Chris radio program out of Portland, Ore., started off the call by asking Stern an indelicate question about Greg Oden.
“Commissioner, pleasure to speak with you, Mr. Stern. Can you address the controversy in Portland, Ore.? Apparently, Kidd Chris from the Kidd Chris morning radio show at KUFO pulled a hamstring looking at Greg Oden’s penis pictures. Any comment on that?”
After a brief pause, Stern said, “I must say, I don’t. Thank you.”
While waiting for the second question to be asked, Stern said, “I must apologize to everyone on this phone for the quality of the conference call that we’re now engaged in.”
When the next question was asked, the caller said, “I want to follow up on that last question about the Kidd Chris radio show and the penis pictures from Greg Oden. Can you talk about Brett Favre maybe if he was sending pictures to you, too? Commissioner?”
“Where’s the operator, please?” Stern asked.
“No, Commissioner answer the question please, Stern. The penis pictures and the NBA…
“Guys, somebody needs to cut off that please,” an NBA official said.
“No, no, no. I want the question in. Don’t be doing this to me, Commissioner.”
It went like that before Tom Fitzgerald asked the first legitimate NBA question relating to the sale of the Warriors.
Tough way to start the NBA season.
