  • Big East Players to Attend Portsmouth Invitational

    HOUSTON — More than a dozen Big East players and three players competing in the Final Four are scheduled to attend the Portsmouth Invitational April 6-9 in Portsmouth, Va.

    Among players in the NBA who competed at Portsmouth are Knicks guard Landry Fields, Wes Matthews of the Portland Trail Blazers, Carl Landry of the New Orleans Hornets and Jason Maxiell of the Detroit Pistons.

    The Big East players on the eight eight-man rosters include:

    Gilbert Brown, Pittsburgh

    Corey Stokes, Villanova

    Dwight Hardy, St. John’s

    Jimmy Butler, Marquette

    Rick Jackson, Syracuse

    Gary McGhee, Pitt

    Chris Wright, Georgetown

    Austin Freeman, Georgetown

    Jeremy Hazell, Seton Hall

    Casey Mitchell, West Virginia

    Corey Fisher, Villanova

    Brad Wanamaker, Pitt

    Marshon Brooks, Providence

    Among the players in the Final Four slated to attend are:

    Jamie Skeen, VCU

    Matt Howard, Butler

    Josh Harrellson, Kentucky
