  • One day after saying he had no timetable to hire a new basketball coach, new Miami athletic director Shawn Eichorst met Thursday with Wisconsin-Milwaukee coach Rob Jeter, sources told SNY.tv.

The meeting likely took place in Wisconsin, not Miami, as my source originally indicated.

Jeter, 41, said Tuesday he had not been contacted about the job and had no comment.

But Jeter worked under Wisconsin Coach Bo Ryan for 10 of his 11 years as an assistant coach, and Eichorst came to Miami from Wisconsin.

Andrew Moore of Impact Basketball Academy in Las Vegas says Kansas freshman Josh Selby has been highly impressive during his time there both as a player and a leader.

“In my opinion, he’s as good an athlete, scorer and competitor as a lot of the guys I saw [drafted] in the first round last year,” Moore said Thursday by phone.

“I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people. IĀ haven’t looked at the [NBA Draft] board but I can’t imagine him going into a workout and getting beat by anybody. He’s so athletic and strong, I was really surprised.”

Desmond Hubert, a 6-foot-9, 205-pound forward from New Egypt (N.J.) High, has committed to North Carolina over Maryland.

“I just felt comfortable there,” Hubert said by phone after visiting this past weekend. “I took basketball out of the equation because I just wanted to see where I would fit in as a student and where I would be most comfortable.”

He plans to sign his Letter of Intent Thursday night or Friday.

Cheikh Mbodji, a 6-foot-9, 253-pound power forward from Dakar, Senegal by way of Denison (Texas) Grayson County College, has signed with Cincinnati and will have two years of eligibility remaining in the Big East.

Grayson coach Pat Rafferty, a former Louisville assistant under Denny Crum, said they playfully refer to him as “Shaq.”

The Co-Conference Player of the Year, he averaged 16 points and eight rebounds per game. Mbodji also considered San Diego State, but chose Cincinnati in part because of the efforts of Bearcats head coach Mick Cronin and assistant Darren Savino.

Eli Carter, the uncommitted combo guard from Brewster (N.H.) Academy, and former Kansas State power forward Wally Judge will take official visits to Rutgers beginning Friday for theĀ annual “Rutgers Fest,” the end-of-year student life concert and carnival.

“Yes, I am,” the 6-foot-1 Carter said by text. Carter said he was told he would have the opportunity “to come in and play both guard positions.”

A New Jersey native who has lived in both Paterson and Willingboro, Carter also includes Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Providence, South Carolina, TCU, Penn State and Iowa on his list.
