As expected, Kentucky sophomore Stacey Poole will transfer, Kentucky Coach John Calipari announced on his website.

“If he would have stayed, eventually he would have had a breakthrough and had his opportunity,” Calipari said.

“Stacey and his family felt it is in his best interest to play somewhere else and I fully respect the family and their decision. I want to wish Stacey nothing but the best in whatever and wherever he chooses to go. He will always be a part of our family and the Big Blue Nation.”

Poole did not play in either of the team’s exhibitions, nor did he play in the season-opener against Marist.

With Marquis Teague, Doron Lamb, Darius Miller and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Kentucky has a glut of talent at the guard and wing positions, and Poole faced diminished playing time.

Kentucky faces Kansas Tuesday night in the Champions Classic at Madison Square Garden. Read more about it here.
