  • In this interview with Five-Star Basketball, Providence signee Ricky Ledo says Ed Cooley is not done recruiting.

Not done by a long shot.

“We’re trying to get Chris Obekpa, we’re trying to get Nerlens Noel, wer’e going hard at him. We’re trying to get JaKarr Sampson,” said Ledo, who dropped 37 points for South Kent in its 94-74 win Saturday over La Jolla Prep at the National Prep Showcase.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Xavier coach Chris Mack didn’t set up the schedule at the National Prep Showcase, but he might as well have.

Mack showed up on Saturday and got to watch all four Xavier pledges at the event in three successive games.

“It’s very convenient,” Mack told SNY.tv. “The fact that they play back-to-back-to-back, you’d almost think I coached the director into scheduling that way.”

Shooting guard Myles Davis played first on Saturday for Notre Dame Prep, followed by point guard Semaj Christon and power forward Jalen Reynolds of Brewster Academy, followed by power forward James Farr of Maine Central Institute.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Former Louisville commit Ryan Taylor looked impressive this weekend at the National Prep Showcase and says he remains open in his recruitment.

“I committed early as a sophomore to Louisville,” the 6-foot-6 Taylor said after putting up 26 points and 11 rebounds Saturday in Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy’s 90-86 win over Brigton (Maine).

“Right now I’m just open to any [schools] and then I’ll start taking my official visits because I haven’t taken any.”

Taylor said his coaches told him Dayton, Cincinnati and Arkansas have reached out, but he doesn’t have any favorites it this point.

Prior to this year, the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament record for assists was 22 in three games.

Iona’s Scott Machado shattered that mark by dishing 41 dimes in three contests– against just six turnovers — to lead the Gaels to a 2-1 record in the event.

“It’s amazing,” Machado told SNY.tv by phone after going for 15 points, 15 assists and zero turnovers in Iona’s 89-63 rout of Maryland.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Don’t look now, but the Oregon State Beavers are 4-0.

Yes, the same Oregon State team that finished 10-19 a year ago and was 42-57 through head coach Craig Robinson’s first three years on campus.

Yet the Beavers may have scored the biggest victory of Robinson’s tenure Saturday night when junior guard Jared Cunningham went for a career-high 37 points despite a split lip over the final minute as the Beavers beat perennial powerhouse Texas, 100-95 in OT, in the Legends Classic at the Izod Center.
