As the Rivals No. 4 center in the Class of 2013, Kennedy Meeks is one of the most highly recruited players in his class.
The 6-foot-8 Meeks, 265-pound out of West Charlotte (N.C.) High has drawn interest and offers from much of the ACC.
“Everybody in the ACC has offered except for North Carolina and Duke and I also have Georgetown, Pittsburgh and Syracuse,” Meeks said. “Georgetown and Carolina are showing the most interest.
“Right now all the schools are equal; some schools show more interest than others but I don’t have a top five right now.”
Meeks has taken unofficial visits to Georgetown, North Carolina, N.C. State and UNC-Charlotte.
Like most big guys, he needs to take care of his body in order to stay in shape, and Meeks understands that.
“I think I could start to get my body right, back to the way it used to be, eating the right foods, which I’m doing now,” he said. “Drink a lot of water, just preparing myself for the next level in order for me to be successful and play at the next level.”
A year ago, Meeks notched 12 points, nine blocks and 19 rebounds (the fourth most in championship game history) to earn MVP honors in the North Carolina state tournament.
Now he’s looking to duplicate that result in his junior season.
‘I just got to realize what it takes to get to the top,” Meeks said. “I think we can win state again if we keep working at it, Winning the Chick-Fil-A [Classic in December] gave our confindence back…Keep winning and help my team win, I doubt we will lose anymore games because we all decided enough is enough.”
