  • NEW YORK — Knicks point guard Baron Davis disclosed Monday that he suffered an infection in his right elbow that triggered further back problems and caused him to shut it down beginning in late January.

“My elbow started really hurting in Miami,” Davis said before the Knicks hosted the Utah Jazz. “I couldn’t even lift my arm when I got out of bed but I practiced that day (Jan. 26). I couldn’t really shoot the ball but I was still out there. When I came back to the hotel, I wasn’t feeling good at all.”

Davis hasn’t played yet this season because of a herniated disk in his back, and said the elbow infection further worsened his back condition.

Ricardo Gathers, the one-time St. John’s commit, has changed course and pledged to Baylor, according to ESPN.com.

“He went up there last week and said that he wanted to (commit),” Gathers’ brother Greg told Dave Telep. “I told him to sit on it for a week. Baylor had been recruiting him since he’s been in the 7th and 8th grade and there’s a connection with ‘Tweety’ Carter going up there and it’s a situation where they have Isaiah Austin, L.J. Rose and they already have Gary Franklin that he’s familiar with.”

The 6-foot-8 “Bayou Bull” chose Baylor over St. John’s, UNLV, LSU and Florida.

Troy Williams, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound wing from Hampton (Va.) Phoebus, plans to announce his college decision after the end of the high school season.

“Will be committing between the end of high school and beginning of AAU season,” Williams, the Rivals No. 4 small forward in the Class of 2013, Tweeted.

Boo Williams, Troy’s uncle, confirmed to SNY.tv by phone Monday that his nephew would likely announce by “May.”

As previously reported by FiveStarBasketball.com, Williams has trimmed his list to North Carolina, Kentucky, Georgetown and Villanova.

When Louisville’s Chane Behanan and Notre Dame’s Pat Connaughton were named co-Big East Rookies of the Week this week, they became the eighth and ninth different players to win those honors this year.

What that shows is that the league is loaded — loaded — with talented frosh.

We’re still about a month away from the official naming of the All-Rookie team but here is the ZAGSBLOG Big East All-Rookie Team for 2011-12.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has selected 20 players for its 2012 Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List.

Members of the association’s board of directors chose the players to be included on the list as contenders for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, to be presented to the national player of the year by its namesake in New Orleans at the USBWA’s College Basketball Awards Breakfast on March 30.

Oscar Robertson TrophyThree North Carolina teammates and a pair of Kentucky freshman headline the list. The Tar Heel trio of Harrison Barnes, John Henson and Tyler Zeller join Wildcat first-year phenoms Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. The list also includes Indiana’s Cody Zeller, Tyler’s younger brother.

    Here’s the list:
