  • St. Benedict’s Prep will return to the ESPN National High School Invitational after a three-year absence.

Led by uncommitted junior point guard Tyler Ennis, freshman guard Isaiah Briscoe and Miami-bound senior shooting guard Melvin Johnson, the Newark school is 30-1 under first-year coach Mark Taylor and ranked No. 10 by ESPN Rise. Their only loss was a one-point defeat to unbeaten St. Anthony, 51-50, in January.

The Friars are riding a 61-game winning streak.

In case you missed it Wednesday night, Louisville coach Rick Pitino had a little fun at the expense of ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, first during a TV interview with an ESPN reporter after the Cardinals beat Seton Hall in the Big East Tournament and then again during the presser in response to one of my questions.

“I say this joking around,” Pitino said at the presser. “This guy Joe Lunardi has no agenda. How would you like to wake up in the morning and all you do is bracketology all day long? Can you imagine that?

When Paterson Catholic High School closed in 2010, its loaded basketball team split asunder and its talented players drifted in different directions.

PC’s two best players — Kyle Anderson and Myles Mack — shifted to St. Anthony to play for Hall of Fame coach Bob Hurley.

So far, that has worked out fairly well for the Friars (28-0), who won a mythical national championship last season and take a 61-game winning streak into Thursday’s North Non-Public B championship game against Hudson Catholic (25-2) at Rutgers.

NEW YORK — Nerlens Noel, the top uncommitted player in the Class of 2012, will visit Georgetown early next week and then North Carolina sometime later this month.

The 6-foot-10 Noel recently trimmed his list to Georgetown, North Carolina, Kentucky, Syracuse and UConn. He dropped Providence and Florida.

“He’s going down [to Georgetown] Sunday and he’ll go Sunday to Tuesday,” a source close to Noel told SNY.tv.

Noel confirmed by text that he is headed to Georgetown then.

NEW YORK — If Rick Pitino had as much influence with the NCAA Selection Committee as he appears to have with Big East Commissioner John Marinatto, Seton Hall would be headed to its first NCAA Tournament since 2006.

“I think Seton Hall’s worthy to get in,” Pitino said after Louisville dealt a severe blow to the Pirates’ Dance chances by handing them a 61-55 loss in the second round of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

“I think Seton Hall’s terrific and they’ve had a very good year,” added Pitino, whose team advanced to face No. 2 Marquette in Thursday’s 7 p.m. quarterfinal.

Arizona announced that freshman point guard Josiah Turner has been suspended indefinitely due to a violation of team rules.

If Turner doesn’t return to the program next year, as Jeff Goodman Tweeted was possible, it would mark the second straight year an Arizona point guard has departed the program.

Lamont “Momo” Jones parted ways with the program after last year and landed at Iona.

“Josiah Turner has been suspended indefinitely from our basketball team for a violation of team rules,” head coach Sean Miller said in statement.
