In its continuing quest to mine top  junior college talent, Iona has landed DaSean Anderson, a 6-foot-8 small forward from LA Trade Tech in California.

Ken Hunter, the team’s assistant coach, said Anderson chose Iona over offers from St. Peter’s, Cal State-Northridge, Montana and Montana State, as well as interest from Washington State.

Anderson will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“He can do so many things at 6-8, he’s kind of like a Rudy Gay-ish player with his outside shot,” Hunter told SNY.tv. “He’s extremely athletic. He can get to the rim. He can create so many things offensively. He’s such a mismatch nightmare.

“If you put a big guy on him, he can blow by him. If you put a little guy on him, he can shoot over him. I think it’s a good match because Iona likes to let their shooters shoot. He’s an offensive talent.

“He’s a real good kid. He’s been extremely talented since he came out of high school. He should have a chance, if he does things the right way, to make some money someday.”

Anderson joins a recruiting class that includes forward David Laury (who becomes eligible at midseason) and guards Grant Ellis and DaShawn Gomez. Iona also just landed Iowa State transfer Tavon Sledge, who must sit a year per transfer rules.
