NEW YORK –– While Tuesday night was good for just about everyone on the Knicks, Baron Davis had a rough time for himself.
The 33-year-old point guard, already coping with a stomach illness before the Knicks’ 118-110 victory over the Boston Celtics, said he re-injured his hamstring in the game, too.
“Hopefully, it was just like a little bite, it was nothing serious,” said Davis, who went scoreless on 0-for-3 shooting with one assist and two turnovers.
Davis, who has battled back, neck and hamstring injuries throughout the season, said the latest hamstring injury occurred in the third quarter.
“I think in the third quarter when I threw the ball to Tyson [Chandler] when he got fouled off the pick-and-roll,” Davis said.
Davis said he was OK to play Wednesday against the Nets, assuming he gets over his stomach illness.
“I think it’s just like a bug, it don’t feel good, though,” he said with a laugh. “It don’t feel good. That’s why I probably I ain’t left [the locker room]. I just sit here trying to get my strength.”
With Davis limited, interim head coach Mike Woodson played Mike Bibby more than 26 minutes at the point and also used J.R. Smith some at that position. Smith went for a season-high 25 points, hitting 7-for-10 from beyond the arc.
Bibby went 1-for-3 for 3 points with 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
“I thought Bibby played great,” Woodson said. “He got us in the offense. Made some good passes for assists and he rebounded well. I felt good about Bibby tonight.”
