Trivante Bloodman is headed to Mississippi State.
The 6-foot New York point guard committed Friday on his visit.
“I have just officially become a Bulldog,” he said by text.
The former Wadleigh High player also had interest from Seton Hall, Texas Tech and Cleveland State, among others.
Bloodman was a qualifier out of high school and will have three years of eligibility.
Bloodman has played a huge part in Olney’s 23-6 record that includes a 12-4 league record and the school’s first Great Rivers Athletic Conference title since 1999.
He’s averaging 15.5 points, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals.
“It’s a good story for a kid who wasn’t getting looks out of high school,” Olney assistant Dan Matic said.
“I think he’s got a chance to be pretty special. He’s got a wingspan of a 6-6 player. He’s a ball-hawk, defensively. He really disturbs things.
“Offensively, he’s unique because he can get to the lane. He knows how to draw contact. Because of the length of his arms he finishes well around the rim with contact. He has a really good knack for seeing open players. When he gets to the lane they do collapse on him.”
Matic said Bloodman is efficient and is “not looking to get his numbers.”
In a win over John A. Logan on Feb. 11, he went 7-for-8 from the field and 10-for-10 from the line for 29 points.
